Respecting Your Personal Information

Hillel Academy of Ottawa respects your privacy and maintains high standards to protect the confidentiality of the personal information of our students, parents or guardians and employees.
 
Hillel Academy of Ottawa is a Jewish community day school having as its objective the teaching and encouragement of Jewish values and practices, and the advancement, maintenance, direction and administration of religious, cultural, linguistic and secular education of Jewish youth within the City of Ottawa and its environs. To accomplish our goals, Hillel Academy of Ottawa collects the personal information of students and their parents or guardians including, but not limited to, name, address, phone/fax numbers, email address, synagogue affiliation and date of birth. We use such information for various purposes as we continually seek to provide our children with the best possible care and education, and to keep you up-to-date with information on our objectives, services and programs. We also use the information in our fundraising to support the school, and for processing any gifts (donations) made.

Examples of such use are listed below:

• To collate information that assists in creating an understanding of the community’s educational needs.
• To communicate to you information about your child’s progress, our programs, services and general school information.
• To advise of specific programs and services that may be of interest to individuals.
• To meet legal and regulatory requirements relating to the services we provide. (We are required by law to share certain information with the Ministry of Education or the Public Health Department.)
• To invoice and collect tuition fees and process donations.
• To process applications for financial assistance.
• To include in the yearly Hillel Academy of Ottawa Family directory, that is distributed to the parent body.
• To ensure the safety and appropriate care of students in the school who have specific medical needs.
• To assist our beneficiary agencies in meeting their fundraising objectives.

Personal information that is collected is stored in secured locations and electronic storage is password protected.

The implementation of the Privacy Policy of our school is overseen by a privacy officer, to whose attention any suggestions or complaints can be brought, and through whom you can access your personal information contained in our records, review your information or request an update to your information.
