Library
Welcome to the library!
Hillel Library is a place for students to enjoy reading in a relaxing, safe environment and develop their inquiry and research skills, critical thinking, and responsible use of text and digital information.
Our library contains a rich variety of materials that can support all levels of curricular and recreational needs in English, Hebrew and French. I look forward to supporting reading literacy through ongoing collection development; book talks, reading programmes such as Silver Birch and Book Clubs for students.

Visits
Bi-weekly classroom visits are planned and taught collaboratively between the classroom teacher and librarian. For example, a class may come to the library to do research, borrow books related to a classroom theme, or participate in various "getting to know the library" activities. This visit also includes their book exchange time.
The library will also be open during first recess on Monday and lunch recess on Tuesday for students to exchange books, read or just hand out. We have a younger student reading area; a teen reading area, study centres and 4 media centres.
The library welcomes teachers and parents looking for resources or just a quiet place of respite. Come in and relax on our comfy couches and read a good book!
Check-Out
Students can borrow 2 books at a time during library class, or open library time. Books can be borrowed for up to 2 weeks, but can be returned earlier so that new materials can be selected. Students may borrow additional materials when working on specific school projects. If a student has one overdue book, then he/she may not take out another book until the overdue one is returned. Students will receive an overdue notice when their book is two weeks past the due date.
Ottawa Public Library Cards
Every Hillel student needs an Ottawa Public Library card.
An OPL card allows
members/students to have access to 60 databases to find articles from
magazines, encyclopedias, newspapers and more. They can find information
that’s fast, reliable and accurate and available from school or home 24/7 with
a library card number and PIN. Please look in our 'Links' for a link directly to the OPL.
If your child has a card, please write the number and PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number) on his/her agenda and I will make note of it during their library visit. If your child does not have a card at present, please consider getting her/him one so that we can use this amazing resource base at school.
Library Rules - The library belongs to us – the whole school- so it is important to take care of it and our books.
